Create your first character

To create a character, sign in, tap Create, fill in the required fields, then tap Publish. You can also save a draft and finish it later.

Before you start

You need to be signed in to create a character.

Step 1: The basics

• Name (required, up to 50 characters)
• Gender (required): male, female or non-binary

Step 2: The look

Upload a character portrait (required). You can use JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or HEIF files up to 8 MB, and portrait orientation works best. laffi makes a 9:16 portrait and a round 1:1 avatar from your image, and you can drag and zoom to adjust each crop. If a crop is too small, upload a larger image (900 × 1600px or more is recommended) or zoom out.

You can also add an optional motion cover, a short animation that plays on your character card: animated WebP, GIF or MP4, up to 5 seconds and 20 MB.

Step 3: Character details

• Character Intro (required): shown publicly on the character card
• Opening Scene (required): the first scene people see in a chat
• Character Settings (required): private instructions that guide every reply
• Example Dialogues and Response rules (optional): help keep the character's voice consistent

If a field is too long, laffi asks you to shorten it before you can publish.

Step 4: Publish settings

• Tags (optional): choose up to ten to help people find your character
• Story mode: General (suitable for general audiences) or Reverie (complex, emotionally rich fiction). Content review and all platform safety standards apply in both.
• Visibility: Public (discoverable in search and recommendations) or Private (visible only to you)
• Tick both confirmations: the character is depicted as an adult aged 18 or older, and you own or have permission to use the images and content.

After you publish

Your character is reviewed. If you see Under review · only you, you can chat with it, but nobody else can find it yet. If you see Under review, it isn't available for chat until review finishes. Check its status anytime in My Studio, where your drafts are saved too.
